According to the current national standard GB/T 8478-2020, the minimum measured wall thickness of the base material in the main load-bearing parts of aluminum alloy exterior window profiles should not be less than 1.8 mm, and for exterior doors, it should not be less than 2.2 mm. This standard, released in 2020, replaces the previous version and imposes stricter requirements on profile wall thickness.
High-rise buildings experience significantly increased wind loads due to their greater height, resulting in much higher wind pressure on window and door profiles compared to low-rise buildings. According to wind pressure zoning data in the Building Structure Load Code GB 50009-2012, the standard wind pressure on the facade of buildings over 30 stories can be 2 to 3 times that of lower-rise areas. Therefore, meeting only the 1.8 mm minimum national standard for high-rise windows and doors may be insufficient to cope with extreme weather conditions; some engineering-grade products will be thickened to 2.0 mm or even 2.2 mm.
Besides profile wall thickness, the grade of aluminum also significantly affects mechanical properties. The most common window and door profile grades on the market are 6063-T5 and 6060-T66. The tensile strength and yield strength of 6060-T66 are about 15% to 20% higher than those of 6063-T5, making it more advantageous in large-span floor-to-ceiling windows and high-rise buildings.
